16.09.2009 - Carlos Coste: king of the pool
We recently brought you news of our freediving partner, Carlos Coste, and his quest for glory at the 2009 AIDA world freediving championships in Denmark.
After a winter of intensive training Carlos achieved his aim of setting a new PanAmerican record in the ‘Dynamic with Fins’ category. Smashing the previous record by almost ten metres, Carlos’ new record now stands at 215m – and he did it all in just one breath!
Spending hours each day in the gym, swimming, doing yoga and pilates has helped Carlos return to the kind of form that first made him one of the biggest names in international freediving. Carlos also took part in the static category and qualified for the final with a time of 7 minutes and 10 seconds. However, he decided to concentrate on the dynamic category and did not take part in the final.
Speaking after setting his new record Carlos said: “It’s a great feeling to have set a new record and a sign that my fitness work is paying off. It was also great to qualify for the final of the static category. I’d like to thank everyone at Oris for their support and I hope I can deliver more records – both national and international before the end of 2009.”
