Olympic coach tests Oris to the limits

08.10.2008 - Olympic coach tests Oris to the limits

Ahead of this year’s Olympic Games in Beijing, 'Friend of Oris' Harvey Hillary was set a challenge: to test the new Meistertaucher in one of the world’s most demanding environments.

Harvey is a National Racing Coach for Skandia Team GBR working with both the Paralympic team and the 2012 Olympic Development Squad. He gave up his own successful sailing career to become a coach in 2003 and is now recognised as one UK Sports ‘Elite Coaches’.

Sailing is a very demanding sport in which precise timing wins races. Harvey was happy to put the new Meistertaucher through its paces.

He told us: “It was great to head out to Beijing with the team and the build up was the perfect opportunity to test the Meistertaucher. For such a big watch it is surprisingly comfortable to wear – both in and out of the water. My main requirement from a watch is durability within a marine environment. It took plenty of knocks and shocks during training in the salt water.

Visibility is also important, and the orange hands are really easy to read against the black background. The Meistertaucher has attracted many admiring glances from my sailing colleagues. It’s tough, it looks good and – most importantly – it is equal to the challenge of my everyday life in and around the water.”

Harvey’s next challenge is London 2012 – we’re sure his Meistertaucher will be the perfect training companion!
