20.11.2009 - AT&T Williams: 2009 Formula One season review

2009 proved another eventful season for Oris and our Formula One partner, AT&T Williams. As the Official Watch Partner of the team, Oris was trackside at every race, bringing you the latest news to your MyOris page with our Grand Prix previews and reviews.

With a fast car, two keen and competitive drivers and the guidance of team principal Sir Frank Williams, the team began the season feeling optimistic. Nico quickly established himself as the man to beat in practice as he topped at least one of the three practice sessions each weekend for the first eight rounds. The points trickled in with a string of good finishes but podiums proved elusive and 4th place in Hungary and Germany were Nico’s best results of the season. He finished 7th in the driver’s championship.

Kazuki had an unlucky second full season in Formula One. He finished the season with no points in spite of promising displays during practice and qualifying.

We congratulate the team on their 7th position finish in the constructor’s championship – an improvement on 2008.

So, another season has passed and already we’re looking forward to 2010. With two new drivers and a new engine partner it’s all change for Sir Frank’s team. We caught up with him at Williams HQ in Grove, Oxfordshire.

Williams has chosen to work with Cosworth as its new engine partner in 2010. Why?
“Like Williams, Cosworth is an independent company whose owners share our passion for racing and engineering. We believe that, working together, we will develop not only a competitive racing car for 2010 but also a long-term partnership that can take on the best in Formula One.”

There are also two new drivers. Why did you choose Rubens Barrichello and Nico Hulkenberg to drive the FW32s?
"Rubens needs no introduction. He is not only the most experienced driver in Formula One, but a passionate and talented driver who fought hard for the Drivers' Championship this year. Nico Hulkenberg won the GP2 Championship this season as a rookie and has previously won the F3 Euroseries, Formula Masters, A1 GP and Formula BMW Germany.”
