09.10.2013 - Anna von Boetticher Dives into the Record Books
More than 150 participants from over 30 different countries descended into the beautiful blue waters of the Messinian bay in the small Greek town of Kalamata to compete in the Aida Free Diving World Championships last week.
German free diving champion and Oris brand ambassador, Anna Von Boetticher headed to the competition determined to break her personal record of a 76m deep dive in the constant weight discipline. However, a cut to her foot just ten days before the start of the competition meant that von Boetticher was under strict instructions to stay out of the water in the days leading up to her dive. This left her unable to train and at a huge disadvantage to the others in the competition.
Reunited with her monofin just hours before the competition, Von Boetticher stunned her fellow competitors with a dive of 81m, setting a new German national record and placing herself in a very respectable fifth position despite her pain.
With renewed confidence after her successful first dive, von Boetticher dived finless on the final day of the competition in the free immersion event, in which divers descend by pulling down a rope. A perfect dive of 73m deep into the crystal waters put her in third place and saw Anna awarded her third bronze medal at her third depth world championship.
"Due to the injury, this was a mentally challenging competition for me. I am really pleased with my results under difficult circumstances and have hugely enjoyed the deep dives in the clear blue waters of the Messinian Bay. It's time to return home for a while but I can't wait to see the Ocean again!"
