In 1900 Louis Armstrong was born in the poor Creole harbour quarter of New Orleans, USA. By his death in 1971 at Long Island he was the king of jazz – Satchmo the Great. Louis was a pioneer of swing, popularising the use of scat, and creating unique trumpet solos. These early achievements can be heard on the Hot Five and Hot Seven Recordings. In the post war period Satchmo’s unfailingly optimistic music reached millions, far more than the jazz purists of the time.

On the centenary of Satchmo’s birth in 2000 Oris created a Jazz watch in two limited editions of 250 and 500 units. Each of the individually numbered watches is engraved with Satchmo’s trumpet on the case back.
