It’s time to talk about kelp

Ocean kelp forests absorb carbon and produce oxygen. After years of decline, the moment for a huge conservation effort has arrived

A giant of the oceans
Kelp is a giant seaweed that can grow up to 60 cm a day. It’s a carbon capture hero and produces around 2 per cent of our oxygen. It creates ecosystems, providing food and shelter for marine life. And it forms natural wave breaks, protecting land.

Underwater deforestation
Due to rising ocean temperatures and growing commercial demand, kelp is under serious threat. Scientists are now talking about underwater deforestation. It’s now time for an urgent global conservation effort to protect the world’s kelp forests.

Conserving life
As our ambassador and award-winning underwater photographer Francis Pérez says: “The time to highlight the threat is now.” Owners of the Oris Kelp Forest Limited Edition will raise awareness of that threat. Change comes when we work together.
